Polanoid :: Shot of the Day :: 02/03/13
I am not sure why, but I love taking photos of silhouettes. Maybe it's the little bit of identity that gets lost in the shadows. Who knows really? But, whatever it is, it is fun in the sun!

HMMMM...

Well, well. What to say? If you are reading this then I am truly sorry about the absence of photos on this blog! My Macbook died and I lost ALL of my scanned photos. So, I took a long break from shooting and the online photo community... but, now I am back and in full force!

Also, in the good news department, I just received an amazingly large quantity of Polaroid film! Which I can't wait to shoot! So, I will continue to upload where I left off, which are photos from over 2 years ago... and hopefully I can some day catch up on the uploads and have a steady stream of current work on here!

Stay tuned and keep your eyes open!

Duck, Duck.... Goose?

I could not help but take these photos.... ducks are strange creatures.

Structure.

Various structures and buildings from my last trip to England. These were shot over the course of a month long stay in Brighton and London during Nov. and Dec. 2010.

The Bleeding Birch.

One of my favorite trees.

Bricks.

Brick by brick I build. I have been stacking bricks for a long time, too long. I am now standing on a shaky structure with my head in the clouds. There is no way down, so maybe I will start dropping bricks to the ground. Watch out below!!!

New Directions.

I stumbled across an interesting collection of work shot on polaroid by Wendy Bevan. She is doing exactly what I want to be doing, shooting fashion on polaroid and other instant mediums. Here are a few of her shots from Italian Marie Claire - A/W 09/10.

A Gentleman & Pretend Sailor.

I am not entirely sure what led me to Balthazar's website. It may have been my never ending search for polaroid lovers or it could have been some cosmic calling. Whatever it was, I am damn glad I stumbled upon it. He is in fact a fan of polaroids as well as other voyeuristic and slightly steamy photographs. So, to get a little more intimate with his followers, he has taken a ,not so instant, step into the world of analog, letter writing. You heard it boys and girls, paper and ink! Now If you thought that receiving a personalized letter from a complete stranger was not exciting enough, he has also given you the option to ask for an original polaroid! Who would do such a thing as that? Balthazar!

I requested a letter and polaroid and here is what i received!!!

February 25, 2011

Dear Justin,
Have i gone to seed? I fear that it could be true. This is why I should never write letters in the morning. I'm prone to agricultural metaphors before 10:00AM. Rather unfortunate, indeed. Can I still sow my wild oats if I've gone to seed? What if my seeds get mixed up with my oats? What the hell am I supposed to do then, Justin? I was told that you were the person to go to with such a question. I only hope that I wasn't misinformed.

What if the birds come and eat my seeds? That will make it better! Birds are useful. I just heard yesterday about a bird that keeps a man from going into psychotic rages by telling him to calm down. How useful! I'm a little concerned that the birds will also eat my wild oats, though. That would make me so mad that all the birdy "calm downs" in the world would not settle me down. I want to sow the wild oats! But, eat my seeds please, birdies.

Yours,
Balthazar

So, I recommend heading over Balthazar's website to a least have a peak at whats going on, and if you feel like it request a letter of your own! Just be patient, one man can only do so much!

New York, New York.

There is something truly amazing about New York City!!! I am not sure if its the architecture, the people, the history or some other strange force, but NYC has a hold of me and its grip is not weakening.

Polaroids In A Music Video?

Amazing video for The Decemberists new song Down By The Water! Shot in Polaroid Type 100 Choco, Sepia and Blue film! All of the photos are by Autumn de Wilde, an American photographer best known for her portraiture and commercial work photographing musicians. She shot a lot photos to say the least, and there are a lot of good looking shots in there as well!!! If you enjoy either Polaroid or The Decemberists as much as I do, you will certainly enjoy this!!!

PAINTINGS?

Aside from the norm (taking polaroids), I am also a painter. So in light of the fact that I have recently picked up the brush again, I have also set up another BLOG to chart the adventures of my paint! So, if you are at all remotely interested in my paintings, follow me at J. Akerfelds

P.s. I am contemplating making Goddamnanalog my full photo BLOG incl. digital, film and of course a bombardment of polaroids!
If you would like to see any of my other photos please let me know what you think of this!
